Acting Registered Manager

“As a Registered Manager my role is to work with my team to provide the best quality of care we can for our Residents I am a very passionate person and always willing to thrive”

Karenza specialises in care of those with dementia –  in particular alcohol related dementia, and other mental illnesses.

The home is designed to be a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, which focuses on home comforts. With only 8 beds, the residents get to know each other very well which makes Karenza feel like their home as opposed to a medical facility.

All the rooms benefit from en-suite shower and toilet facilities and are decorated and furnished to a high standard. Residents can bring all of their own belonging and furniture if they wish, which helps them settle in to their new home. They may even be able to bring pets.

Karenza has an on-site activity centre, where residents can go to cook, do art & crafts and use computers. We find this is a great asset to help with improving the residents general well-being as they can get away from the busy part of the home to a quiet area which is still safe and familiar. Staff can provide one-to-one quiet time with residents in a relaxed environment which helps them to feel valued and supported.

Residents also have frequent visits from entertainers, and enjoy holistic therapies. We have a dedicated Day Services team who provide individually tailored programmes for our residents and take residents out on frequent day trips to help keep them mentally and physically fit.

In order to meet their changing needs, we occasionally move residents between our 4 homes if medical professionals and their family agree that this would be in their best interest. We find this is always a positive transition as residents are already familiar with the home and the staff.

Korsakoff’s Dementia

We provide specialist care for people with a diagnosis of alcohol related dementia who have stopped drinking. This service has a rehabilitation element to it. We provide these residents with the opportunity to develop life skills and to regain their independence. We also provide a programme of activities which initially is aimed at improving their general health, starting with healthy eating and exercise as these have often been a neglected aspect of their lives during the years of drinking. We acknowledge that this can be a slow process, often with setbacks, but we remain positive and believe that with support, encouragement and guidance the vast majority can achieve a much improved quality of life and an improved sense of well-being. This is evident with our current client group.

Testimonials

I think the staff that look after my relative are the most caring, supportive and understanding staff not only with them but with me as well.

I come to Karenza every week to offer massage therapies to the residents, who all gain a great benefit from their treatments. I am always met with friendly staff who all have a great genuine passion for their work, I have seen the residents stimulated with music, Mr Motivator exercises, trips out for a walk and for days out. It is a really happy caring place to work and I would be happy for a family member of mine to be cared for here.

All staff are incredibly compassionate towards all residents. I have been very inspired by this as a volunteer and have learnt a lot.
