Coming Together as One Family To Beat Cancer

September 11, 2026

At JW Care Group, we believe that a care home is more than just a place to live — it is a family, made up of residents, staff, friends, families and the wider community.

Recently, that family came together for a very special cause: Sue’s Fundraiser, raising money for Cancer Research UK in memory of Sue.

What followed was a wonderful day filled with laughter, creativity, determination, generosity and, most importantly, togetherness.

Every Mile Made a Difference

One of the highlights of the fundraiser was our static cycling challenge.

Residents, staff and family members all got involved, taking turns on the bike and challenging themselves to complete as many miles as possible.

To make every mile count, JW Care pledged £3 for every mile completed.

It was fantastic to see everyone cheering each other on. Most importantly, it wasn't about how far anyone could cycle — it was about doing it together.

Made With Love

Our fundraiser was full of wonderful homemade treats.

One of our dedicated staff members spent time baking delicious cupcakes and biscuits, which were sold throughout the event to raise additional funds by our residents.

We also had a beautiful selection of custom jewellery, lovingly made by children. Their creativity and enthusiasm added something very special to the day, and it was lovely to see their hard work appreciated by everyone.

A Day Full of Fun

There was something for everyone at Sue's fundraiser.

Our raffle and tambola brought together gifts and prizes donated by residents, staff, families and supporters. It was a true team effort, with everyone contributing whatever they could.

And then came the magic!

A fantastic magic show brought plenty of smiles, surprises and laughter to the day, giving everyone the chance to sit back, enjoy themselves and share the experience together.

We even held a cake auction, selling it for £80!

Every pound raised represented someone's time, effort and generosity.

A Bench in Sue's Memory

One of the most meaningful parts of the fundraiser was the creation of a bench in memory of Sue.

The bench represents something lasting — a place to sit, reflect, remember and share stories.

It is a reminder that although someone may no longer be with us, the memories and impact they leave behind can continue to be part of our lives.

One Family, One Purpose

What made Sue's fundraiser so special wasn't any single activity.

It was the way everyone came together as one family. That is what makes our family so special.

We are incredibly proud of everyone who contributed, whether through cycling, baking, donating, organising, buying, cheering, volunteering or simply being there.

£741 Raised for Cancer Research UK

Thanks to everyone's generosity and hard work, we are delighted to announce that £741 was raised for Cancer Research UK.

£741 represents hundreds of individual acts of kindness coming together for one important cause.

To every resident, family member, member of staff, child, friend and supporter who helped make the fundraiser possible — thank you.

You didn't just help raise money.

You helped create memories.

You helped bring people together.

And you helped honour Sue in a truly meaningful way.
