What is ARBD and who is your ARBD care suitable for?
Alcohol-Related Brain Damage (ARBD) covers a range of conditions caused by long-term alcohol use, including Wernicke–Korsakoff’s syndrome. Our ARBD care is designed for working-age adults who need support with memory loss, decision-making, daily living skills or changes in behaviour linked to cognitive impairment.
Can people with Korsakoff’s syndrome improve with the right care?
Yes, many people with Korsakoff’s syndrome make meaningful progress with structured routines, consistent support and rehabilitation-focused activities. While recovery varies, our Korsakoff’s care aims to stabilise health, rebuild confidence and help people regain practical skills wherever possible.
How do you support memory loss and disorientation caused by ARBD?
We use calm, predictable routines, clear prompts and personalised strategies to reduce confusion and help people feel secure. Our ARBD support plans focus on strengthening existing abilities, easing anxiety and encouraging independence where safe.
Do you accept referrals from hospitals or alcohol services?
Yes. We regularly work with hospitals, social workers, mental health teams and alcohol support services. If someone needs specialist ARBD or Korsakoff’s residential care, we can usually complete assessments quickly - especially for urgent or step-down placements.
What behavioural support can you provide for people with ARBD?
Some people with ARBD experience frustration, poor impulse control or changes in mood. Our teams are trained in positive behaviour support, risk reduction and calm communication techniques to help manage challenges safely and respectfully.
Is your ARBD and Korsakoff’s care long-term or short-term?
We offer both. Some people stay for long-term residential ARBD care, while others join us for shorter periods focused on rehabilitation, stabilisation or transition from hospital. Each person’s plan is tailored to their goals, abilities and support needs.
Can you support someone with ARBD who is still drinking?
We assess each situation individually. Many people with ARBD or Korsakoff’s arrive with recent alcohol use, and we can usually support them through safe routines, health monitoring and structured daily living. However, we are not a detox service, so anyone needing medical withdrawal must complete this before moving into our ARBD care. After that, our focus is on stability, reducing risk and helping people maintain healthier, more consistent habits.
