The Story of JW Care

Founded 30 years ago
Supporting 48 adults
Across 4 care homes
JW Care began nearly 30 years ago, not as a business plan - but as a personal response to a gap that desperately needed filling.

At the time, our founder Janet Wyatt was working as a mental health nurse in the NHS. She saw first-hand how few specialist services existed for younger people living with dementia and other mental illnesses. Most care homes were set up for older adults, and many simply weren’t equipped to support younger residents with more complex emotional, psychological and social needs.

Faced with this gap, Janet decided to offer the kind of care she felt was missing - and began by welcoming residents into her own family home.

Nearly three decades on, we now run four small, specialist homes across the West Midlands. Though we’ve grown, the approach hasn’t changed: we create homely, supportive environments where each person is seen as an individual, not a diagnosis.

Founder & Director
“When I started this journey, I didn’t imagine we’d grow to run four homes. But I knew one thing — people needed better options. I met individuals who were being placed in inappropriate settings, often isolated and misunderstood, and I couldn’t accept that.

We set out to build something smaller, calmer, more personal — the kind of place you’d want for your own family member. That’s still our guiding principle today. Every resident brings their own story, their own spark, and their own needs. Our job is to listen, adapt, and support them in living the life that suits them.”

A Family-Run Service, Rooted in Care

JW Care remains a family-run organisation. Janet is still very much involved, supported by a dedicated team - many of whom have been with us for years - and by her own children, who now work alongside her in the business. This continuity matters. It’s what helps create a real sense of home, familiarity and trust for residents.

We care deeply about the people we support, and we never take a one-size-fits-all approach. Whether someone joins us for long-term care or a shorter period of support, we shape everything around their personality, history, culture, and goals.

This is specialist care - but more than that, it’s personal care. Delivered with warmth, thoughtfulness and respect.
